Sonatina

Privacy policy

Sonatina is software that music schools and teachers use to run their lessons. This page explains what information we handle and why. It is written in plain language on purpose.

Who is responsible

Each school decides what to put into Sonatina about its students and families, and is responsible for having their permission to do so. Sonatina stores that information for the school and uses it only to run the service for them. Questions about a particular student's information are best asked of the school first.

What we collect

Students do not have their own sign-ins. Information about children is entered by their school or parents. We do not market to children.

How we use it

To run your account, send the emails the service needs (confirmations, invoices, lesson and trial reminders, password resets), keep things secure, and answer your questions. We send news about Sonatina only to people who ticked the box asking for it, and every such message can be unsubscribed from. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

Who else sees it

Only the services we need to run Sonatina: our web hosting provider, email delivery, and, if a school switches on card payments, Stripe, which handles card details directly so we never see card numbers. We may also share information when the law requires it.

Where it is kept and for how long

Information is stored on our hosting provider's servers. We keep it while the account is open. When a school closes its account, or asks us to, we delete its information within a reasonable time, apart from short-lived backups and anything we must keep by law. Schools can download their own records at any time from inside the app.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and you can withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time. Write to us through the contact page, or use Messages if you are signed in.

Keeping it safe

Each school can only see its own information, passwords are stored in scrambled form, and sign-in attempts are limited. No system is perfect. If something happens that puts people's information at real risk, we will tell the affected schools promptly.

Changes

We may update this page. When the changes matter, we will tell account holders.
